A German won the European Memory Championship held in Denmark over the weekend.

Nineteen people competed in the International Association of Memory including Lars Christiansen of Denmark.

The aim of the contests is to train one's memory skills and to make those skills accessible to people around the world.

The founders hope to make the contests as popular as sporting events.

Before the contest the Danish contestant, Lars, was asked by a Danish reporter to try and remember a simple shopping list.

He forgot one item.

Maybe that's why he didn't win the European championship.

The German winner, Simon Reinhard, will compete in the World Championship next month.

He'll compete by trying to memorize up to 550 numbers in sequence.
