Marc Stone convicted of murdering wife and young son, couple went to school and met in Dothan

A Madison County jury took only a couple of hours Tuesday to convict a former Northview High School student of murdering his wife, also from Dothan, and their young son.

In doing so, they rejected claims from Marc Stone's attorneys that he “snapped” and became emotionally unstable, causing him to strangle Krista and seven year old Zachary in 2013. Stone confessed he drowned his son to make sure he died.

Marc and Krista Kowalsky met a church function in Dothan in the late 1990's. Then, about a year after she graduated from Northside Methodist Academy, they married. In Huntsville, both worked at the same hospital.

Outwardly, everything seemed fine. Then, one day in 2013, Marc Stone drove aimlessly around Alabama for hours. After returning home he killed his wife and son.

Afterwards, he napped and watched television before taking his two younger children to Leeds, Alabama.

Dropping them off at his parents’ home, Stone then drove to the Leeds Police Department and confessed to the killings.

Despite the guilty verdict, jurors aren't finished with their work. Returning Wednesday, they will hear additional testimony before deciding whether to recommend the death sentence or life in prison without parole for Stone.
