WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear at a campaign rally in Mississippi on Monday, to support the state’s incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith in her midterm election bid.

“Cindy Hyde-[Smith] is fantastic. And she’s very popular,” Trump said on Friday, before leaving for Florida to attend another midterm rally.

While Mississippi is typically considered a Republican stronghold, recent polling has suggested that the Senate race between Hyde-Smith and Democratic nominee Scott Colom has become more competitive.

Republican Party officials say their strategy is focused on turnout for their party.

“This president knows how to turn out these low propensity voters. And the midterms, historically, it’s all about turnout,” RNC Chair Joe Gruters said.

In a post on X last week, Colom suggested that the visit is a sign of concern among Republicans.

“Cindy High Prices is scared and that’s why she’s sending Donald Trump down here,” he wrote. “She’s scared to answer why she voted to cut healthcare, why she betrayed our farmers and why she blocked the release of the Epstein files.”

The president is scheduled to begin speaking at Crossroads Arena in Corinth, at 6 p.m. Central Time.
