2 people dead, multiple injured after shooting inside gym, police say

LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) - Two people are dead and multiple people were injured when a gunman opened fire inside a gym in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Police said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 1700 block of N Rainbow Boulevard, near Vegas Drive, which happened around 1:30 p.m.

During a press briefing, Sheriff Andrew Walsh shared that a person armed with a weapon entered the Las Vegas Athletic Club and fired multiple rounds inside.

Multiple people suffered gunshot wounds, and one person was confirmed dead. The shooter was also shot by officers and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The University Medical Hospital confirmed that four people have been hospitalized, one of whom was critical.

Police said no officers have been reported injured.

A motive is unknown at this time.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said SWAT was helping to clear the building during the active scene.
