DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The Hawk Houston Youth Enrichment Center is celebrating 56 years of operation, but this session looks a little different.

Like most other youth camps, the enrollment number has been reduced and session dates shortened.

A check-in policy including temperature checks upon entering and exiting the facility has been put in place and everyone inside must wear a mask.

The changes have been an adjustment for the kids, but the camp is something they needed and not just because of the fun.

“We do a lot of academics so that a child does not lose what they learned in their previous school grade and better prepared for the next grade so this time they really really needed that because they had been out of school for quite a while,” says Hawk-Houston YEC executive director Altha Newman.

All camp activities will be done in compliance with social distancing guidelines.
