One injured, another arrested after argument turned stabbing in Cottonwood

An argument turned violent in Cottonwood on Friday resulted in a man being stabbed multiple times and another man being arrested.

COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WTVY) - An argument turned violent in Cottonwood on Friday resulted in a man being stabbed multiple times and another man being arrested.

34-year-old Thomas William Smith of Cottonwood is being charged with second-degree Assault and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 900 block of Metcalf Street, where they located the victim and began administering first aid.

According to the description provided by HCSO, the victim was suffering from multiple stab wounds to his neck and back.

Smith was quickly identified as the main suspect in this incident and taken into custody while other deputies attended to the victim.

Evidence of the incident was recovered by investigators following several search warrants, with investigators also determining that the stabbing occurred after an argument between the victim and Smith.

Smith was transported to the Houston County Jail, and is currently being held there on no bond.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and his injuries, which were considered non-life threatening, were treated.
