Witnesses say "shut up" triggered Elba Coach Harrison

ELBA, Ala. (WTVY) -- A different coach will be on the sidelines for the Elba Tigers Friday.

Elba head football coach Pate Harrison

Head junior varsity coach Glenn Johnson will be calling the shots.

The move comes after head football coach Pate Harrison was involved in a controversial situation.

The incident happened at the junior varsity football game against Ariton, this past Monday.

A live stream caught Harrison shoving a player in the back.

Witnesses tell WTVY that a student-athlete (Reportedly the player was his son.) told Harrison to shut up and that's what triggered the incident.

Elba City Schools superintendent Chris Moseley says, "At this time all I can confirm for Elba City Schools is that our head coach Pate Harrison has been placed on administrative leave and at this time we have no further comments about the matter.”

The superintendent says Harrison can be off the sidelines for at least 20 days.

That will give Moseley time and opportunity to talk with the school board about any other actions that need to be taken.
