Ozark, Ala. (WTVY) - Local Puerto Ricans are doing their part to help out their friends and family back home.
The Wiregrass Hispanic Latino Outreach is partnering with local businesses to help collect supplies for the island in the wake of Maria.
Jim Whaley Tires in Ozark, Willie's Place in Dothan, and Good Samaritan Helping Hands in Enterprise are serving as drop-off locations. Instead of money, they're asking for bottled water and dried food items.
"What we're trying to do is get a good package together, so we can try to help some of our friends,” said organizer Myra Aponte. “So, we're asking the community that would be interested to just come out and donate and give out of the good of your heart whatever you can."
The goal is to have the donations sent to Puerto Rico by Friday, October 20th.
