VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- A new adventure is right around the corner in Valdosta.
On Saturday, Wild Adventures is debuting its new Discovery Outpost. It's part of a nearly $2.5 million addition, and one of the park's largest expansions in history.
Discovery Outpost is near the entrance to the park, featuring new rides and Alligator Alley, a chance for kids to see alligators up close and learn all about the reptile.
"Alligators are something that, those of us from South Georgia and North Florida are very familiar with. We know alligators, we live with alligators out in the wild, but here is a safe environment for you to learn a little more about them and get up and personal, and see these alligators that you normally just keep your distance from," said Adam Floyd, Media Communications and Public Relations Manager at Wild Adventures. "Wild Adventures has always been an incredible economic driver for Valdosta and Lowndes County, and our surrounding counties, as well. So putting in a new exhibit like this and a new area, really does drive attendance, drives tourism, and really starts pumping money in to our local economy."
Park staff said they expect to have more than 50 alligators in the park. Alligator Alley also offers opportunities to feed them. Wild Adventures opens for the season this Saturday.
