DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG) -- Walton County Emergency Management is making an effort to help those in need as the COVID-19 crisis continues.

Partnering with other organizations, WCEM put on the county's first drive-thru food pantry in the parking lot of 4C BBQ in DeFuniak Springs Saturday. The food was meant for those living below the poverty line, as well as those who had been financially impacted by the pandemic.

"Hopefully it gets people food that need food. That's the bottom line," said Walton County Emergency Management Director Jeff Goldberg. "You know, Maslow' Hierarchy of Needs; food, shelter, those are the two most important things. They have shelter, they need food."

Goldberg is looking to hold similar events in the northern and southern portions of the county next.
