It's history made in the WWE, as the company has named its first full-time black female referee.

World Wrestling Entertainment signed Aja Smith to its roster on February 5th and in a video released by the company, Smith calls it "the greatest moment of my life." She also calls it an honor to have the platform as a female, and also one of color.

Smith later tweeted "Let's change the world! #BlackGirlMagic"

Smith was formerly a wrestler before transitioning into a referee role. Under the ring name Aja Perera, she competed across the U.S., Japan, and Mexico and won two championships.

In her new role, Smith will referee WWE matches to be televised on the USA Network.

Smith is WWE's second female referee, following Jessika Carr in December of 2019.
