MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG) -- The coronavirus outbreak is affecting staff and inmates in federal prisons in our state, including the Federal Correctional Institution in Marianna.

FCI Marianna Union President Charles Jones said the prison is sending correctional officers, medical personnel and other staff to work in other areas across the country. Some of those areas have high numbers of COVID-19 cases.

"There's not enough respirators for all the staff to be tested with because of the shortage of masks. We even have some staff that would like to wear their own surgical mask into work but the agency is refusing it,” said Federal Corrections Institute Marianna Union Charles Jones.

We reached out to officials with the Federal Correctional Institution in Marianna but they were unable to provide a comment at this time.
