The network made the announcement on Tuesday.

The cartoon is already the longest-running primetime scripted TV series, now in its 30th season.

And by the end of the two-year extension, the show will have more than 700 episodes behind it.

The cartoon has won a string of accolades, including 33 Emmy Awards, a Peabody award and an Oscar nomination.

Fox included a cheeky quote from character Homer Simpson in its press release: "Woo Hoo! 32 seasons! Watch your back 'Meet The Press!'"
