Saliba Center celebrates 25th anniversary

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- The Alfred Saliba Family Services Center is such a vital agency in our area.

The Center believes everyone deserves a stable and loving family.

Board Chairman, Wes Crowley says, "Not all of us are born knowing how to be a father, knowing how to be a parent or a mother. Some of us were born without that support system."

Crowley believes empowering families makes for a better community.

"To strengthen a community, I believe it's strong families, made up of strong families," Crowley said.

Linda O'Connell has been with the organization since it was founded by former Dothan Mayor Alfred Saliba on November 1, 1994.

"It's just been a blessing to be a part of this organization for the past 25 years," O'Connell said.

She is confident in the center's abilities to help people.

"We kind of put our money where our mouth is and we hire the people that come through our door a lot of times" she explained.

Yolanda Wooten was the first person hired by the Saliba Center.

She was able to work and care for her children because of the services provided by the Saliba Center.

"I was able to come to work and drop my child off at Headstart and then walk back down the hallway to my job," Wooten explained.

Wooten believes no one should be afraid to seek help for their family.

"When you better yourself it's better for you and your family because it's not saying that you are less, it's just saying that you want to be more" Wooten said.

The Alfred Saliba Family Services Center has served more than 51,000 consumers since its founding in 1994.
