TROY, Ala. (TROY) -- Troy University’s Dothan Campus will host a screening of the documentary “First Lady of the Revolution,” about Henrietta Boggs, who served a key role in the Costa Rican Civil War, on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in Sony Hall.
Boggs, 100, is an Alabama native and will attend the screening, which will be followed by a brief question-and-answer session.
“First Lady of the Revolution,” produced by Spark Media, tells the story of Henrietta Boggs of Birmingham, who met and married Jose Figueres of Costa Rica in 1941.
In 1948, Figueres led a 44-day rebellion, which came to be known as the Costa Rican Civil War. He headed the governing junta that abolished the military and wrote a democratic constitution, then turned power back over to the elected government in 1949. He was elected to the presidency in 1953.
Boggs was Figueres’s wife during the coup and junta period, though they divorced before he stood for the presidency.
“First Lady of the Revolution” is based on a book of the same name. Boggs will sign copies of the book at the screening.
