DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- A local high school student with special needs is "officially" living his dream tonight on the sideline.

Everyone at Rehoboth High School knows that 10th grade Joseph Maddox wants to be a football referee.

The Southeast Alabama Football Officials are making that happen for Joseph.

At the pep rally, they presented him with an official shirt and made him the honorary official of the night.

He says he'll be paying close attention to sportsmanship.
"I’m refereeing tonight… just going to help the team. I have to do because the team is my sweet angel boys,” says Maddox.

He was also given the coin for the toss tonight.

They face the Carroll High School Eagles tonight for their homecoming game.
