ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) — The public is invited to celebrate this month the official opening of the city’s fourth fire station as well as a new home for the Enterprise Fire Department’s Central Headquarters.

The new Westside Fire Station will be dedicated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at its location on the corner of Aviation Boulevard and the Boll Weevil Circle near the Enterprise Municipal Airport. Mayor William E. (Bill) Cooper and Fire Chief Byron Herring invite everyone to attend the ribbon-cutting and an Open House set for 4 to 6 p.m. the same afternoon.

The 5,000-square foot station has been under construction since August 2016. Fire Chief Byron Herring has said the new station is capable of housing four firefighters and two fire trucks, including the specially-designed Airport Crash Truck and a Class A Pumper.

The ribbon-cutting for the new Central Station on Plaza Drive will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, with an Open House to follow from 4 to 6 p.m.

The new station was made possible by Brent and Elizabeth Cook, who sold their old Action GMC Car Dealership property to the city in 2014 at a dramatically reduced price. During the past year, the main 17,000-square-foot facility has been remodeled to adapt to the fire station’s needs. It will serve to house the bulk of the fire department’s fleet and vehicles and will house the everyday administrative operation of the department along with a firefighter crew.

“We really want everyone to come out and see the fire stations,” said Chief Byron Herring. “We are proud of these facilities that will help us to better serve the citizens of our growing city.”

The Enterprise Fire Department currently has a Class 3 ISO rating, which determines fire insurance rates. The ratings are classified on a 1-10 scale with 1 as the best. Only 3 percent of the fire departments in the United States have an ISO rating of three or better.
