ASHFORD, Ala. (WTVY) — Houston County deputies are on the hunt for a robber.

It happened just after 8 Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Cowarts Creek Baptist Church.

Edwin Reynolds is a deacon at the church near Ashford.

He was shocked when he saw 8 cop cars, all there because of a crime against someone visiting the church cemetery, a person robbed while paying respects to a family member.

Deputies are looking for the suspect.

Mayor Bill Rafferty says, "We haven't seen a huge pattern of this out in the county but it does happen so we want everyone to be aware of their surroundings,

Edwin says Cowarts Creek is a small church, 50 members with a simple motto, If smiles were diamonds, how rich would you be?

But there's no smile now because security is on their minds

Reynolds says, "The sheriff's department is real nice to us, they always come by and check on us."

Rafferty says, just be aware.

"Couple things they can do, let people know where they are, have someone with them, you know, Houston County is a good county and we have a lot of good people but sometimes some people come through and they do bad things."

If you have any info on this robbery, call The Houston County Sheriff’s Department.
