On or about 09/28/2017 at approximately 10:30 pm law enforcement officials with the Ozark Police Department and the Dale County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop in the area of Highway 231 and Highway 123 in Ozark.

The traffic stop was conducted due to a juvenile passenger having an active pickup order for his arrest. Law enforcement officers had prior knowledge that the juvenile was armed and had made statements that he would not be taken into custody if approached by law enforcement.

Immediately after conducting the traffic stop, law enforcement officers came into contact with the juvenile, who at the time was in possession of a firearm. Law enforcement officers gave several commands for the suspect to drop the weapon.

At that time the suspect pointed the weapon in the direction of the officers and shots were fired by officers. The suspect was struck once by gunfire and he retreated into the wood line near Highway 123.

Law enforcement officers immediately lost sight of the suspect and additional units were requested to assist at the scene. Once additional officers arrived, a search of the wooded area along with several residences along Highway 123 was conducted.

After searching the area for more than (3) hours, law enforcement officials were able to locate the suspect in the 4000 block of Highway 123 near Ozark. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident or injury.
