Ozark shooting leaves neighborhood on edge

OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) - About an hour and a half after I laid down shots flew. I mean a bunch of them too. One went through my window. Luckily, me and my lady was laying down,” says Brairhill Court resident Stanley Cooper.

What started as a block party on Briarhill Court in Ozark suddenly turned into a shooting match.

“They say it started with some ladies and then they called a brother in the one that got shot,” says Cooper.

Witnesses remember hearing about 30 gunshots.

At least two people were hit in the crossfire.

“On arrival, a black male was located that sustained multiple gunshot wounds and listed with serious critical conditions,” says Sergeant Everett Evans with Ozark Police.

He was transported to a local hospital.

Another man with nonlife-threatening conditions had already been transported to the hospital before police arrived.

There have been no arrests in the case.

“A lot of physical evidence was located at the crime scene. We're still conducting interviews at this time to generate a suspect,” says Everett.

With rumors of threats to get even, the incident leaves neighborhood residents on edge.

“You don't even know if you want to go to bed because you don't know if it's going to draw up again. Somebody is going to get accidentally killed. It can be a child or anybody... bullets just flying through windows anybody man. That's sad man,” says Cooper.

If you have any information that could help the investigation you are encouraged to contact the police.
