DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- In a few weeks, organizers of the 16th Annual Dothan Christmas Luncheon will provide hot meals for seniors and local residents in need.

But, your help is needed to make it a success.

Organizers expect more than 700 people to show up to the free event, which will take place at the Wiregrass Recreational Center in Dothan on December 20th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They need donations of food, blankets, toiletries, socks, and more, as well as volunteers.

They said demand is extremely high this year, but their supply is low.

"In the past we have given away blankets and heaters and brown bags of food to the people, to the community that comes out,” said Event Coordinator, Anita Dawkins Weatherington.

“But this year, the needs have shifted. We have more homeless people in our area than we generally, do and so their needs are just to have those safe items to stay warm during the wintertime,” Dawkins Weatherington said.

If you'd like to volunteer or make a donation, you can drop them off at Community 1st Real Estate, located at 188 North Foster Street in Dothan.
