LEVEL PLAINS, Ala. (WTVY) -- According to the man who lives there, he knows exactly why his home went up in flames.
Level Plains Police Chief Keith Gray says, "He stated that he thought that someone was breaking into his home, so he fired a flare gun at him from his home and he ignited the mobile home, as you see here."
By the time the Level Plains Fire Department arrived on scene, it was too late.
Everyone made it out safely, but the home was destroyed.
Even though the resident says he caused it - the Level Plains Fire and Police departments are investigating.
Gray says "As it stands right now, we have known the victim for a long time, and there have been several issues with the victim, so I’m really not surprised, but the fire department will be conducting their investigation to rule out any foul play which he clearly told us that he fired the flare gun."
The home was in a heavily wooded area with other mobile homes close by, so there were concerns at first of the fire spreading.
With the quick response of the fire department they were able to get it under control and no other trailers were damaged.
Gray says "The department responded immediately as you can see there are several trucks here and they are more than capable of taking care of the fire and extinguish it".
