(NBC News Channel) - McDonald's is set to open 1,000 new stores and speed up plans on its new self service ordering system.
McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook said the company's "business is growing" and it's "fundamentally sound." He also said 2017 was McDonald's best performance in six years.
Easterbrook said the chain is making technological upgrades, such as self-service kiosks at some locations and delivering food to a customer's table when it's ready.
The fast food chain has not said where the new restaurants will be located.
McDonald's has about 37,000 locations worldwide.
