Dothan, AL (WTVY)-- A man faces charges in the apparent beating of another man that happened in downtown Dothan on Sunday.

33-year old Anthony Dozier is accused of Attempted Murder, Robbery, and Intimidating a Witness. The latter charge stems from allegations he threatened a person with knowledge of the crime.

“The victim, in his 60's, was found in the 200 block of West Main Street. Initially, officers believed he had fallen, causing blunt force head injuries. However, our investigators quickly discovered otherwise,” said Lt. Scott Owens of the Dothan Police Department.

Owens claims evidence shows Dozier and the victim had been engaged in an illegal drug deal. The victim, who police are not identifying, refused to pay Dozier for drugs.

They suspect that Oliver, in retaliation, struck the man multiple times with with an object that caused blunt force injuries.

Owens said if that victim dies Oliver would face capital murder charges.
