Dothan, AL (WTVY)-- A veteran Dothan police officer has been promoted to the rank of major, filling a position that had been vacant for several years.
In his new role, Will Benny will oversee many day to day operations and essentially serve as the city's assistant police chief.
He worked his way up through the ranks, having began his career in 1999 as a Dothan City Jail corrections officer.
Until his most recent promotion, Benny had been a Captain, serving as commander of the Criminal Investigation Division.
Major Benny assumed his duties on August 4.
The position had been vacant since Chief Steve Parrish's promotion in 2015.
