EMA director Chris Judah is trying to recruit people for the 17 volunteer fire departments in the county.

He says,
"These people don’t get paid to get up at 2 in the morning and leave their families to serve others."

Right now they have around 300 that cover almost 500 miles.

"It is a commitment; you are volunteering your time and your life."

Judah says, it's hard to get people to serve, because it takes a lot of your time.

"A typical day for a volunteer fire fighter is just like you and me, they get up and go to work but when that call comes in, they have to drop their responsibilities and go."

That’s why he says, they need young people who are always ready to serve.

They are also in need of donations so that they can pay for training for the volunteers.

If you’d like to donate, contact the Houston County EMA.
