DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- A decision in the district two school board race in Houston County was decided by the roll of the dice Tuesday afternoon.
Challenger Scott Long defeated incumbent Rickey Moore by just two votes on election night. After going through provisional ballots, the two now have 742 votes.
The decision would normally fall in the hands of the chairman of the Houston County Republican Party. That post is held by Houston County Commissioner Brandon Shoupe.
Shoupe originally planned to turn the decision over the party’s executive committee, but the state informed Shoupe a decision needed to be made by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Shoupe decided each candidate would roll a die to determine a winner. The candidate with the highest score after three rolls would be declared the winner.
Scott Long rolled first rolling a 2, 2 and 7. Rickey Moore rolled a 1, 2, and 1.
Scott Long will be the new district 2 school board member for Houston County.
