ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WTVY)- Construction is well underway on the Abbeville Fiber LLC site, a company that Henry County officials are looking forward to welcoming to Abbeville.
David Money, the Henry County Commission Chairman says "We're excited about it, it's the best thing to happen to Abbeville industrial speaking since Westpoint Stephens back in the 50s when it was known as Westpoint Pepperell".
The company will bring in around 100 jobs and will also help grow the community.
Money says "Hopefully a lot of the people that live here will take a job out there but there will also be some people that are moving here to Henry County, especially in the supervisory areas of this company so tremendous shot in the arm for Henry County and especially for the Abbeville area".
At the commission meeting, it was unanimously approved for the county to take bids for turn lane improvements into the company’s site; a measure that Money says is much needed.
Money says "A lot of those log trucks will either be coming in from state Alabama 27 or US 431 North and South. If you can envision 5 or 6 of those 18-wheelers loaded with logs getting here at the same time and the congestion not to mention the danger it would create trying to turn in to find a place to park so by building a turn lane those vehicles can come on in get to the staging area where they can await to be unloaded it's a safety measure as well as a practical one".
A resolution was also approved to apply for a community development block grant to help construct rail spurs, a well, and a water tank on the site.
