ALABAMA -- (WTVY) Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has decided not to bring Amtrak services back to Alabama.
The state would have had to make a $5.3 million dollar pledge over the next three years to resture Amtrak services between Mobile and New Orleans.
Ivey opted against it.
Supporters of the service would help increase tourism and economic development in Mobile.
It would have been the first time Amtrak train traveled the northern gulf coast since Hurricane Katrina.
In a statement today, Ivey said: "I am hopeful that one day we may have the luxury of providing financial support for passenger rail service, but now is not the time when we have other challenges which must take priority."
