His speech coincides with the 75th anniversary of D-Day. It was the perfect opportunity to focus on the needs and challenges of soldiers and military families.
General Ham retired from the U.S. Army after 38 years of service.
He now works as an advocate for military families.
He says the Wiregrass holds a special place in his heart because people here are true patriots.
"You feel a genuine, heartfelt patriotism…that the people here, whether they have a direct connection to a soldier who's serving at Ft. Rucker or someplace else or whether they're lifelong families of this area, they know, understand and appreciate those who serve in the uniform of our nation."
Retired General Ham shared personal stories about his life of service and how the AUSA is working to improve the lives of military servicemen and their families.
