(CNN) -- Today is the perfect day to chill out with a bowl of chili. February 28th is National Chili Day!
'Chili' is short for Chili Con Carne, which simply means chili with meat in Spanish.
The National Day Calendar usually sets aside the 4th Thursday of February to honor the cook-off favorite.
It's actually the official dish of Texas, and has been that way since in 1977.
The most common ingredients in chili are tomatoes, chili peppers, meat, garlic, onions and cumin.
Beans versus no beans is where the great debate starts.
It's right there with another big question-- is chili considered a soup or a stew?
That depends on who you ask.
