ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) -- Summer baseball is in mid-swing and with that comes traveling.

Enterprise is hosting the 2019 Dixie Youth-Rookie State Tournament

This tournament started on the fifth.

Children from five to 12 have been competing, and hotels and restaurants are big winners.

The event began with 51 teams in four age groups.

“We’re introducing other cities to our city,” said Tammy Doerer.

“We’re very proud of what we have to offer here. Our parks and rec department does and amazing job maintaining our venues, and our parks, and our fields, so we’re proud to show those off.”

Showing the fields off is no problem.

“Our ball fields stay busy almost every weekend hosting other tournaments that are here in the local area.” said Doerer.

With it being vacation time, businesses can see a drop in customers. So this event has been good for everyone.

“It’s a time that we’re statistically much slower,” said Amanda Bruner, Panera Bread Catering Coordinator. She adds, “People go out of town during the holiday and everything like that, but having so many people come in from out of town, we’ve seen an upturn in sales.”

Most of the teams are coming from outside the Wiregrass.

“It’s been great really having all people coming in from all kind of places,” said Bruner.

This event provides a first-hand look at what Enterprise has to offer.

“This gets a chance for us to showcase the hospitality we have here in Enterprise,” said Doerer.

Between players and families, the tournament has brought more than 1,500 people to Enterprise.
