Edgewater Beach Resort hosts annual Women of Distinction gala

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL -- (WTVY) At Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, 21 incredible women were celebrated for their accomplishments in the community.

The Women of Distinction awards ceremony took place Saturday night to not only honor the women nominated for the award, but help support the Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle.
The night kicked off with a social hour and a silent auction.

Organizers say the event serves as a way for younger girls to look forward to the future.

Tiffany Simmons of the Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle said, "Because at Girl Scouts we're trying to show girls that they can do anything and we're trying to build girls of courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place. By seeing these women they know that it's true, it's possible they can do these things these women are doing. It's inspiration to them."

There were 10 winners of the 21 nominated and WJHG's Jessica Foster took home the Emerald Award.

The award honors a woman who exemplifies leadership and serves as a role model for today's girls.
