Dothan police grow out their beards for charity

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - You may have noticed that Dothan’s boys in blue have been a bit, hairier lately.

For the third year, the squad is participating in no shave November, but it comes at a price.

They each have to raise a minimum of $200.

The money is spent on Christmas gifts for kids at the Alabama Children’s Hospital.

Their goal this year is to raise $20,000.

"One of the things we like about it is the time of the year leading into the holidays, where this additional money really helps those families who are displaced or maybe spending a lot of time at the hospital away from home during the holidays,” said Captain Bubba Ott of the Dothan Police Department.

Female officers can also participate by painting their nails, something they aren't allowed to do the rest of the year.

If you would like to donate to the cause, you can bring checks by the police station or give them to any officer you see on duty.
