DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- The tree is officially lit outside the Dothan Civic Center.

Tonight was the 41st Christmas tree lighting for the city.

Friends Choir, Rose Hill Senior choir and Wallace Community College choir sang carols followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree and a special appearance from Santa Claus as he rode in on a firetruck.

Santa also took pictures with children and heard Christmas lists.

"It's very exciting especially to see all the children's faces with the lights and the decorations. It's just a wonderful time as a community to come together to start the celebration of the holidays," City of Dothan Program Coordinator Stephanie Wingfield said.

The city of Dothan will host a story time on December 20th AT 6 p.m. at the Eastgate Lodge.

Santa will be back to read ‘Twas the night before Christmas.
