Dothan Preparatory to get new entrance drive

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) More changes are being made at Dothan Preparatory School.

The Former Dothan High School will become Dothan Preparatory School starting with the 2019-2020 school year.

Money for a new entrance drive has been approved.

The measure is designed to make it easier and safer for parents to drop off and pick up students.

This wasn’t an issue last year because students were driving themselves to school and parking in the lot.

But with the restructuring, city leaders had to come up with a new way to keep traffic moving.

“What we wanted to do is try to find a way to get those cars off the road,” said Public Works Director, Charles Metzger.

“We’re coming in off of Alice Street with a new route that’s going to go around and go around to the front of the gym area,” Metzger said.

Right now, the city is working on installing storm drains and pipes for the project, which is expected to cost $358,000 to complete.

Wiregrass Construction is hoping to finish the project before school starts in August.
