Dominican Republic affected by rain and wind from Maria

PUNTA CANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (APTN / CBS Newspath) -- Hurricane Maria is bringing high winds and rough seas to the Dominican Republic, as it passed offshore of the northeast coast on Wednesday.


The storm is expected to bring flooding and wind damage as it passes close to the island.

About 4,000 tourists in the Bavara-Punta Cana area on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic have been moved to hotels in Santo Domingo because of Hurricane Maria.
