COFFEE Co.(WTVY)- Coffee county leaders are exploring the possibility of giving inmates convicted of non-violent offenses an alternative to jail time.
They are considering modeling their community corrections program after neighboring Dale County’s.
Community corrections gives inmates different options depending on their crime.
Sherriff David Sutton said, “It’s going to allow us to be able to let the inmates work on their own stay at their own residence come out and work but their under strict guidance with the supervision out of Daleville."
So far the program has experienced a high success rate.
Coffee County is still in the early stages of planning, so it is not clear which inmates will qualify for community corrections or the process which will determine their eligibility.
