Christmas trees going like hot cakes

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Twenty days until Christmas and some tree farms are nearly out for the season!

There are about 20 trees left at Holly Branch Farms on Highway 84 West. Owner Heidi Snell says this is one of the earliest times they've sold out.

Snell believes part of the reason there is a shortage is because a lot of the growers are retiring and younger people don't want to work in the tree business.

But, she has one recommendation for any families still hunting for the perfect tree.

"The best time to get a Christmas tree is when you see the truck roll in, those are going to be the freshest. If it sits out in the lot in the sun and we haven’t had any rain for a month or two- so it's been a while, there is nothing really keeping the trees moist,” said Snell.

Holly Branch gets its trees from Sparta, North Carolina. Snell says people come all the way from Atlanta to get one of their trees.
