Blakely council candidate could be in hot water

BLAKELY, Ga. (WTVY) — A Blakely council candidate may have violated campaign ethics laws.

Travis Wimbush apparently posted on Facebook an offer to potential voters.

He said if they go to the polls they would be entered in a drawing for $25 dollar gift card.

It's illegal to bribe voters.

Wimbush apologized on social media and says he's still in the race.

Blakely Mayor Anthony Howard says,
"I referred the situation to the Secretary of State's office and the city attorney. It is my understanding that they have opened an investigation into the matter."

There's no word on when that investigation will be complete.

Election Day in Blakely is Tuesday.
