ASHFORD, Ala. (WTVY) -- Going to college to play sports is a big deal, it's even a bigger deal when a player from our backyard commits to a college right up the road.
That's the case for Ashford third-baseman Bailey Hughes, who's batting a remarkable 433, with 29 hits, and 18 RBI's this season for the Yellow Jackets.
The softball star, will spend her next two years playing for Wallace Community College, and although she plays the hot-corner, Lady Gov's Head Coach David Russo feels she can play any of the infield positions, but will be best for the middle infield.
Hughes is not quite sure what she wants to major in, but has been thinking hard about possibly wanting to become a teacher, and after Wallace plans to play at West Florida or Alabama University Montgomery.
As for why she wanted to become the newest member of the Lady Govs, she says its all about location, location, location.
"I chose Wallace because its close to home and I've played with a lot of players who went there and it feels like family there. It's close. They are just really good this year, and I guess coach Russo is doing something good if you look at their record this year."
