Ashford Schools to dismiss early due to power outage

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) — UPDATE: An Alabama Power Company spokesman says a squirrel shorted out a transformer and burned out some power lines on Adams Street in Ashford around 8:30AM. They say it will take several hours to replace the transformer and restring the lines.

UPDATE: According to the school system a power line near the old Methodist Church in Ashford is down.

According to a press release from Houston County Schools, Ashford High School is without electrical power and will not have service for several hours.

The schools in Ashford will dismiss early. Students will be fed lunch and Aslford Elementary School will load buses and leave by 12:45 p.m. High School buses will leave at 1:00 p.m.
