Mark your calendars! The last day to register in Alabama for the March 3rd primary elections is February 17th.
"It's always about the community. We want the community people to have an opportunity with no hassles to register to vote," Linda Turner, committee coordinator for Houston County Democratic Party said.
And the Houston County Democratic Party is making sure you're prepared.
"We have 7 committees and one of the main committees is voter registration. Voter registration is always not partisan. We made a decision to come out to the communities of Kinsey and Cowarts and Columbia and we thought the best way to do that was to follow the bookmobile around," Turner said.
The Houston County Democratic Party has been traveling with the Dothan-Houston County Library's bookmobile since the beginning of the new year.
"And that way allow the people that can't get into Dothan or don't have a way but can get to the bookmobile, they can get registered," Turner said.
According to state election data,
In 2019 Houston County had more than 70,000 active voters and nearly 6,800 voters were inactive.
"If you really want change in your local community or the state or anywhere else -- you need to have your voice. And so, I encourage everyone to exercise that right that so many died and fought for," Turner said.
And once registered, party officials say it's important to cast your vote.
"Voter registration is a huge important aspect of our government. We need people who are registered voters to actually vote. If you're able and capable to try and get Houston County and it's citizens as much voice as we could," Turner said.
The forms take less than 5 minutes to complete and staff will be available on-site to answer questions if needed.
