3 robberies in 2 days, police need public's help

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Police need your help with solving three armed robberies in Dothan.

The criminals hit a gas station and two stores between Friday night and Sunday night.

A group of six masked men held up the Kangaroo on Ross Clark Circle Friday night at gunpoint.

Lt. Lynn Watkins says he has never seen so many men involved in one heist.

He says, "We don’t want there to be any more robberies but I can’t say if they have intention to rob again."

Police tell us three robbed the store while three others robbed a customer pumping gas.

The crooks wore black hoodies and black pants.

On Sunday, two men with guns robbed this Dollar General on Montgomery Highway.

And at the Metro PCS on South Oates, a man put the worker in a back room and made it out with $1,500 and a cell phone.

Right now, police don’t know if these crimes are related.

When it comes to convenience store robberies, according to the FBI, there were 25,579 in 2016 across the country.

In Alabama according to ALEA - there were 273.

Lt Watkins says always know who is around you.

"If you are pumping gas, always be aware of who is around and hanging out and who may be suspicious."

And if you see someone looking suspicious, the best option is to get away.

Police are still looking for suspects in all three robberies.
