DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — About 10% of the American population has diabetes.
Thursday, Dothan Leisure Services partnered with the Alabama Department of Public Health to sponsor the 15th Annual Diabetes Prevention and Wellness Workshop at the Dothan Civic Center.
The workshop offered education through vendors, presentations and demonstrations.
This is to help prevent the disease, as well as, if already diagnosed; controlling the disease in the right ways.
Holly Whitehead, Marketing Director at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle says, "We love coming out when Dothan Leisure has events like this for seniors in our community. We have long term care so this is the people that we serve."
She says events like this are beneficial because she can take what she learns back to the facility and better help her residents.
Dothan Leisure Services Program Coordinator, Stephanie Wingfield said more than 400 people attended the free event that was open to the public.
