DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — On Valentine’s Day, WCCD’s Alexis Sydnor was getting ready to play softball against Andrew College when her coach gave her good news: the Alabama Community College Conference named Sydnor the ACCC Player of the Week for February 6-12.

Sydnor earned the honor with energetic play. The Opelika, Alabama native scored nine runs for the Lady Govs that week. She batted .545 with two home runs, seven RBI’s and three stolen bases.

After hearing the news, the Lady Govs freshman centerfielder scored another home run.

“Alexis is that rare combination of power and speed,” said Lady Govs coach David Russo. “She just keeps getting better and better.” Alexis has already stolen several bases so far this season. In addition to centerfield duties, she occasionally steps in to pitch.

It is apparent that Sydnor is comfortable on the field. She has played the game since she was five years old. She is also humble about the opportunity. “I thank God for blessing me with this ability,” she remarked. “I never take softball for granted because it can be taken from me at any moment.”

Sydnor is in athletics for the long run. She is an outstanding student who holds a 3.8 GPA at Wallace Community College-Dothan. Her ambitions are to major in a field that will lead to a career in sports management.
