TROY, Ala. (WTVY) - Football is officially back on the campus of Troy University.
The Troy Trojans starting up spring practice on Tuesday morning under second year head coach Chip Lindsey.
I was really pleased overall." said Lindsey. "Defensively, I thought we ran to the ball well. I thought we competed in the 7-on-7 drills, but you can tell some of the guys we have in here have an opportunity to help us.
The biggest question heading into the spring is the quarterback battlle.
Many eyes are on last years backup quarterback Gunnar Watson, but Lindsey is not just handing him the starting position.
"We have a competition for sure," said Lindsey. "We won't name a starter until the fall, but I think they have an opportunity to separate themselves some what."
"I am a lot more confident this year," said Watson. "I feel like I know the playbook a lot more and I am ready to go."
What helps Watson coming into the 2020 season will be his experience with the returning offensive players.
"He is one of my very best friends I got here," said center Dylan Bradshaw. "It helps so much having someone back here that you have that relationship with. I may not be the linemen and the leader I am without being as close to those guys because I know they trust me."
Troy has 14 more spring practices remaining which will conclude with the annual T-Day Game on April 4th.
