Martin aims for improvement in sophomore season

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Former Northview kicker Jack Martin is entering his second year with the Troy Trojans.

During his freshman season, Martin saw limited playing time, mainly on kickoffs, and is hoping for a much bigger role this season.

"Obviously, I want to build off last year," said Martin. "Hopefully just get a chance to do field goals this year. Same for punts. Whatever I get to get on the field, I'd love to do that."

With spring practices shut down, Martin's training has changed, but he's still getting in work.

"I've been working out 3-4 days a week at my trainer's house and then I'll go kick with Brian (Jackson) 2-3 times a week," said Martin. "We've been doing that and just trying to get in as much work as we can."

Martin is spending his time back in Dothan, but is more than ready to get back to Troy with his teammates.

"We're all just ready to get back up there," said Martin. "We've all been talking about it. Nothing is really the same. We definitely have a lot of gains after coming back from Christmas. I know there will probably be a little set back, but hopefully it's not too bad."

Troy opens up the 2020 season at home on September 5th against Arkansas Pine Bluff.
