First week of NFL Training Camp is in the books for Marquez White

Former Northview Cougar and Florida State Seminole Marquez White continues to fight for a regular season roster spot as he gears up for Week #2 in NFL Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys.

The sixth round pick is one of nine cornerbacks on the roster currently, and one of three rookies at the position. Chidobe Awuzie out of Colorado and Michigan's Jourdan Lewis are also competing with White to make the 75-man roster.

Throughout White's first week of training camp, videos emerged on Twitter showing him batting down a pass intended for rookie WR Ryan Switzer, and also defending an overthrown pass by 2nd year QB and former Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott.

In what will be a difficult position battle to win, Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett says playing time will come to prove their worth, "We'll evaluate all those reps. Whether you're working with the 1s, the 2s, or the 3s, they'll get their opportunity. And as we go, we might shuffle those line up's up, maybe someone earns the opportunity to work with the 2s or work with the 1s at the cornerback position. We encourage them to be prepared for this unique opportunity that they've earned for themselves. They have a chance that not many people get a chance to do -- live out their dreams in life."

Coming up next for White and the Cowboys: the Hall of Fame Preseason Game vs. the Arizona Cardinals in Canton, Ohio on Thursday, August 3, 2017. The game will be televised on WRGX-NBC.

Cut day for the NFL is set for September 2nd, and we will continue to follow Marquez White's progression as he fights for a spot on the 75-man roster.
