Chip Harris named Houston County football coach
Chip Harris led some of the most successful Houston County Lion football teams in program history in the late 90s and early 2000s. Well, Harris is once again back at at the helm for the Lions and is hoping to return them to their winning ways.
Harris was named the new Houston County head football coach Monday night. Harris takes of for Mike Atkins who resigned to take an assistant coaching job at Pike Road High School.
After his first stint with Houston County, Harris spent five seasons at Northview High School from 2004-2008. He followed that up with three years at Ashford and then a stop in Florida as the head coach at Chipley. Most recently, Harris was an assistant coach at Geneva High School.
Harris said his urge to become a head coach once again never left.
"I was a head coach for 19 years," said Harris. "I missed being a head coach dearly. It was an opportunity to go back to a place I was familiar with and a place I truly enjoyed and my family enjoyed."
